Livestock Parasite Diagnostic Facility in Armidale, NSW
About Us
GYST began when, with assistance from UNE, we were able to lease part of the Parasitology lab in the Woolshed Building at the UNE campus. By 2017 we had a number of casuals who also supported the business.
In February 2020 Invetus closed their diagnostic facility and much of that business was transferred to GYST. This was the beginning of a large and sudden expansion as we tripled our workload almost overnight, resulting in the employment of three new staff in March, followed by three more in the following months.
By January 2022 we had outgrown the UNE Parasitology lab and needed to find a new home, and by July we had left UNE to set up a new facility at CSIRO near Uralla. With considerable help from CSIRO staff we transitioned to the Chiswick site and now occupy 3 labs, all with dedicated operations.
We have also made a small change to our name. As of January 2023 we are GYST Livestock Parasitology Services. This is to better reflect the industry we work in and the services that we offer.
The Team at GYST
GYST now employs 9 staff, all with specialist Parasitology training and/or knowledge. As the business continues to grow, we plan to take on more staff on a part-time basis so that we can continue to improve and streamline the flow of work, ensuring producers get results quickly and with the highest accuracy.
